Pomperaug Youth Softball is a non-profit organization affiliated with Babe Ruth Softball. The mission of Pomperaug Youth Softball is to provide the youth of Southbury and Middlebury the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of fastpitch softball in a fun environment. It is our goal to make sure every player has a quality experience both on and off the field. Our organization focuses on developing the program to continually improve the player’s experience by investing in training, facilities, and opportunities for every girl that has the desire to play.
If your daughter has not played before a copy of her birth certificate will have to accompany the registration form. Please make checks payable to SGS (Southbury Girls Softball).. Should you have any financial concerns, please contact Frank Durante and an arrangement will be made. We want all girls who want to play, to be able to play!
About our programs:
Regardless of the age group, our programs are suitable for new as well as seasoned players. There is equal playing time for all players. It is never too late for your daughter to give softball a try!!!
U6: This is a developmental program focusing on the fundamental skills of the game including:hitting, catching, throwing and base running.Instead of a hard ball we use soft, light weight balls to make the girls more comfortable.Once the season starts there will be a handful of games scheduled to provide real life action.
Instruction is provided by the coaches supplemented with clinics taught by former college softball players and high school players.
Practices are held one week night and Saturday mornings for 1.5 to 2 hrs. After opening day Saturday will be used for the scrimmages.During the week the practice is usually held on Friday night’s beginning at 6pm.Saturday’s usually begin at 9am.The days and times are subject to change as they are coach dependent.
Our program utilizes Ballantine Field and Settlers Park in Southbury, and Long Meadow Elementary School.
U8: Same as U6 with more advanced skills being taught. We will begin to have the girls pitch. There are games each Saturday morning. Some of these games may be with Woodbury, Newtown or other near-by neighbors.
U10: The players are introduced to pitching, catching, stealing and bunting. The games are competitive and there are umpires.Practices are held one weeknight and Saturday until games begin.Once games start there will be a game during the week , and another on the weekend. An additional practice may be added at the coach’s discretion.
U12 & U14: These age groups are still instructional.Practice and game schedules are the same as U10.
U10, U12 and U14 Travel – Tryouts are in August for the following season. If interested contact Frank Durante
Practices will begin the second or third week of April, based on field conditions. Games will begin the week of April 23rd. Opening day will be on 4/26.
